Teeth whitening
Professional whitening lifts years of everyday staining from coffee, tea and time — safely, and far more effectively than anything off a supermarket shelf. We’ll tell you honestly what it can and can’t change for your teeth.
Families across Truganina, Mt Atkinson, Williams Landing, Point Cook and the rest of Melbourne’s west choose us for their teeth whitening.

Flannel flower — bright and fresh; natural brightness restored.
Two ways to whiten
Both use professional-strength gel under dental supervision — the difference is where and how quickly. We’ll suggest the one that suits your teeth and your timeframe.
In-chair whitening
Done here in a single visit, with your gums protected, for a noticeable lift in about an hour — useful before an event or when you’d rather it was done for you.
Custom take-home trays
Trays made to fit your teeth exactly, with gel to use at home over a couple of weeks — a gentler, gradual result you can top up later.
Honest first: whitening only works on natural teeth. It won’t change the colour of crowns, veneers or fillings, and it isn’t right for everyone — which is why it starts with a check-up, not a gel.
Is whitening right for me?
Whitening suits general, everyday staining on healthy teeth. It’s worth a conversation if this sounds like you — and worth a check first if any of the cautions apply:
Everyday staining
Yellowing from coffee, tea, red wine or simply age responds well to professional whitening.
A brighter smile for an occasion
A wedding, a photo, an interview — in-chair whitening gives a lift on a timeline.
Done safely, under care
Sensitivity and gum irritation are managed when it’s supervised — unlike one-size-fits-all kits.
Whitening isn’t suitable for everyone — not during pregnancy, and not where there’s untreated decay, gum disease or exposed roots. Deeper, internal discolouration may need a different approach, which we’ll talk through honestly rather than over-promise.
What to expect
Whitening starts with a check-up, not a syringe of gel — making sure it’s safe and right for you is the whole point of having it done properly.
- 1Step one
Check-up first
We confirm your teeth and gums are healthy, and that whitening will actually help the kind of staining you have — if it won’t, we’ll say so.
- 2Step two
Plan & prepare
We record your starting shade, and either whiten in the chair or take impressions for custom trays — your choice, guided by what suits your teeth.
- 3Step three
Whiten
In-chair whitening is done here with your gums protected; take-home whitening is done over a couple of weeks at your own pace, with us checking in.
- 4Step four
Keep it up
We advise on the foods and habits that stain, and how to top up — so the result lasts rather than fading in a month.
What it costs
Whitening is priced by the option you choose — in-chair or custom take-home — and you’ll know the cost before you start. Because it begins with a check-up, we can also tell you honestly whether it’s worth doing for your teeth.
Health funds & teeth whitening
Cosmetic treatment is generally not covered. If you have extras cover, ask us to check — we claim anything covered on the spot through HICAPS.
Interest-free options
Larger treatment can be spread over time rather than paid upfront — just ask.
No surprise additions
Your quote covers the plan agreed. If something changes clinically, we discuss it before it affects the cost.

That range matters: it teaches you to be thorough, and to treat the person rather than just the tooth.

Cover & claiming
We accept all major health funds
Health funds generally don’t cover cosmetic treatment such as teeth whitening. For your other dental care, Allura Dental in Truganina claims on the spot through HICAPS where your cover applies, and interest-free payment options are available.
… and every other Australian fund.

Questions
Teeth Whitening FAQs
Does teeth whitening hurt or cause sensitivity?
Some people get short-lived sensitivity during or after whitening — it’s usually mild and settles within a day or two. Because we supervise it and protect your gums, we can manage it far better than an over-the-counter kit, and adjust the strength if your teeth are sensitive.
How long do the results last?
It varies with your habits — coffee, tea, red wine and smoking all stain teeth again over time. Most people keep a good result for many months to a year, and custom take-home trays make topping up easy when it starts to fade.
Is professional whitening safe?
Yes, when it’s done under dental care on healthy teeth. The reason it starts with a check-up is to make sure whitening is right for you and that there’s no decay or gum problem underneath — that’s the safeguard the shop-bought kits skip.
Will whitening change my crowns and fillings?
No — whitening only lightens natural tooth. Crowns, veneers and tooth-coloured fillings keep their existing shade, so if you have them in visible spots we’ll talk through what to expect first, and whether they may need matching afterwards.
Are supermarket whitening kits as good?
They’re much weaker, and a one-size tray means the gel doesn’t sit evenly — so results are patchy and slow, and the gel can irritate gums. Professional whitening uses stronger gel, a custom fit, and supervision, which is safer and far more effective.
Can everyone have their teeth whitened?
Not everyone. It isn’t recommended during pregnancy or where there’s untreated decay, gum disease or exposed tooth roots, and very dark or internal staining may need a different approach. A quick check-up tells us honestly whether whitening will work for you.
