Our Team
The people you’ll actually see
A small, deliberate team — so you’re not passed between strangers each visit. You’ll get to know us, and we’ll get to know you and your family.
Principal Dentist
Dr Sumaiya PathanPrincipal Dentist
Dr Sumaiya Pathan has practised dentistry in Australia for more than 10 years, across regional and metropolitan communities — Broken Hill, Sydney and metropolitan Melbourne. Early in her career she was the solo dentist at a busy rural clinic in Broken Hill, seeing patients of every age and every background, the work running from emergencies and routine check-ups to the complex cases a city practice would have referred on — all of it managed herself, the nearest specialist a long drive away.
She treats across general, restorative, cosmetic and orthodontic dentistry: check-ups and gum treatment, fillings and root canals, crowns, bridges and dentures, extractions and wisdom teeth, implants, braces and clear aligners, veneers and whitening.
She holds a Graduate Diploma of Digital Orthodontic Treatments and is currently studying advanced orthodontics as part of her commitment to continued education, to always provide better diagnosis and outcomes for patients — diagnosis being the first and most critical step in any treatment. In children, changes in growth appear long before the teeth crowd, and growth is easier to guide early than to correct later.
Her special interests are preventive dentistry, children’s dentistry, restorative dentistry and family oral health, along with smile makeovers using clear aligners and porcelain or composite veneers. She sees a large number of children, and treats anxious patients of every age.
Dr Sumaiya Pathan is also a member of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Paediatric Dentistry and of the Australian Dental Association’s Victorian Branch.

Clinicians
Our dentists
Dr Sumaiya currently sees all patients personally. As we grow, associate dentists and visiting specialists will be listed here — each with their own profile, so you always know who you’re seeing before you arrive.

Associate dentists
Joining as we grow
We’d rather add the right clinician than the next available one. Any associate joining Allura Dental works to the same charter as Dr Sumaiya — and will be profiled here.
Visiting specialists
Referral network
Where treatment sits outside our scope we refer out rather than guess. As visiting specialist arrangements are established, they’ll be listed here.
Behind the chair
Clinical support team
A visit is shaped by far more than the dentist. These are the people managing your comfort, your safety and everything that happens between appointments.
Lakshdeep (Lax) Chahal
Dental Assistant
7+ years as a dental assistant in fast-paced practices. She keeps patients comfortable, explaining what comes next and noticing when someone is anxious. Clear communicator, careful with detail, exacting about infection control, and relied on when a day gets busy. Away from work she travels with her family and cooks her way through new cuisines.
Dental assistants
Chairside care
Lax works alongside the rest of our assisting team, who prepare every surgery to our infection control standard between patients and stay with you through treatment.
Dental nurses
Clinical support
Sterilisation, instrument preparation and surgery turnover — the unglamorous work that decides whether a clinic is genuinely safe or merely compliant.
Oral health therapists
Preventive care
Cleans, preventive treatment and oral hygiene coaching — particularly for children and for patients managing gum disease over the long term.
First and last
Front of house
The first people you speak to and the last you see. They handle the parts that decide whether a visit feels calm or chaotic.
Reception team
Bookings & claiming
They’ll check your health fund or CDBS eligibility before you sit down, explain costs without you having to ask twice, and find an appointment that actually fits your week.
Practice management
Standards & systems
Responsible for the protocols behind the scenes — infection control auditing, equipment maintenance, and making sure our standards hold on the busy days too.
Shared standards
Everyone, every visit
Every member of this team works to the same behavioural standards — honesty about uncertainty, quality that doesn’t cut corners, and care that treats you as a person.
Individual profiles are added here as team members join. Role descriptions reflect the positions in our clinic today.
Our commitment
What every member of this team commits to
You’ll be informed
Every option explained in plain language — including the cost, the alternatives, and what happens if you do nothing for now.
You’ll be safe
Evidence-based decisions, a higher standard for infection control, and a referral out rather than a guess when something sits outside our scope.
You’ll be valued
Unhurried appointments, costs upfront in writing, and follow-up after treatment — not just when it’s time to rebook.
The Allura Promise
The charter every one of us works to, and the quick test we apply to any decision: is it honest, is it quality, is it caring?
