Frequently Asked Questions
Your questions, answered plainly
No jargon and no fine print buried at the bottom. If your question isn’t here, just ask — we’d rather you know exactly what to expect before you book.
New patients
Your first visit
What’s included in the $199 New Patient Offer?
A comprehensive exam, gum health assessment, oral cancer & pathology screening, intraoral photos, 2× X-rays, a full-mouth clean & polish, fluoride, a full-mouth 3D scan and a personalised treatment plan — plus a complimentary oral care kit as our welcome gift to new patients, and one to look forward to each year you keep up your regular visits with us. Full-mouth X-rays and the full-mouth 3D scan are taken only where clinically necessary, and where covered by your health fund. Your dentist will explain why before anything is taken. The offer is open to new and existing patients, once in any 12-month period; just mention it when you book. The $432 comparison is the combined value of the inclusions listed, not the price of a single service.
Is Allura Dental accepting new patients, and do I need a referral?
Yes — Allura Dental in Truganina is accepting new patients, and no referral is needed to book. You can book online any time, or reach us by phone on 03 8342 8888 or on WhatsApp. Whether you want a routine check-up, a second opinion on a quote from elsewhere, or an appointment for dental pain, you can book it yourself.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Your health fund card if you have one, your Medicare card (particularly for children, so we can check CDBS eligibility), and a list of any medications you take or medical conditions you have. If you’ve had dental X-rays or treatment elsewhere recently, bringing those details helps us avoid repeating anything unnecessarily.
How long does a first appointment take?
Allow around an hour. We’d rather take the time to examine thoroughly, show you your own images and talk through your options properly than rush you back out the door. If you have somewhere to be, tell us when you arrive and we’ll work with it.
What happens at a check-up?
We listen first, then examine your teeth, gums and soft tissues, take any imaging we need, and talk you through what we found using your own photos and 3D scan on screen. You’ll leave understanding the current state of your oral health and what — if anything — needs doing, along with the cost of each option.
I haven’t been to a dentist in years. Will I get a lecture?
No. Plenty of people arrive after a long gap, often because a previous experience wasn’t a good one. We’re interested in where things go from here, not in why you stayed away. You’ll get an honest assessment and a plan you’re comfortable with.
Can I get a second opinion at Allura Dental?
Yes, and you’re genuinely welcome to. Bring any treatment plan or quote you’ve been given and we’ll assess it independently and explain how we see it. If we agree with the original plan, we’ll tell you that too.
Costs
Pricing & payment
How much does it cost to see a dentist in Truganina?
A comprehensive first visit at Allura Dental in Truganina is $199, for new and existing patients, once in any 12-month period. A check-up and clean for an existing patient, without X-rays, is $160, and a limited exam of one area of concern starts at $65. Everything else is quoted in writing before it begins — you’ll find the full list on our price guide.
Are X-rays included in the $160 check-up and clean?
No — at Allura Dental in Truganina $160 covers the examination and the clean for an existing patient. X-rays aren’t part of a routine visit: your dentist takes them only where there is a clinical reason, such as decay between the teeth or something below the gum that an eye cannot see, and explains why before anything is taken. If yours are due, ask about the comprehensive visit at $199, which is the better value in that case.
Will I know what it costs before treatment starts?
Always. You’ll get a personalised treatment plan and written quote before any treatment begins, with the cost of each option explained — including the option of doing nothing for now, where that’s clinically reasonable. Nothing proceeds until you’ve agreed to it.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes — interest-free payment plans are available at Allura Dental in Truganina so the cost of larger treatment can be spread over time. The plan is with an external payment plan provider, which sets approval, any fees and the repayment terms — not us. Interest-free is not fee-free, so ask for the total rather than the instalment, and you’ll have the full cost in writing before anything starts.
Do you accept Afterpay?
Yes — Allura Dental in Truganina accepts Afterpay: four interest-free instalments paid fortnightly over six weeks, in the clinic or through a secure payment link. It suits check-ups, cleans, hygiene visits, whitening and smaller treatments, and the gap left after your health fund has paid its part. Afterpay sets your eligibility and your spending limit, not us, and any late fees are Afterpay’s. Larger treatment such as braces or implants usually sits above an Afterpay limit, so ask us about an interest-free payment plan instead. We don’t provide credit and receive no benefit from how you pay — how Afterpay works.
Can treatment be staged to spread the cost?
Often, yes. Where it’s clinically safe to do so, we can prioritise what genuinely needs attention now and plan the rest over time — around your budget and your health fund’s annual limits. We’ll be clear about anything that shouldn’t wait, and why.
What if I don’t have private health insurance?
You’re just as welcome. Our $199 New Patient Offer covers a comprehensive first visit, our pricing is explained upfront, and interest-free payment options are available so treatment can be spread out. Eligible children can also be bulk-billed under Medicare’s Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS).
Is there a bulk-billing dentist in Truganina?
Bulk billing at Allura Dental in Truganina is through Medicare’s Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS): eligible children have the services it covers bulk-billed, with no gap to pay. Adult treatment is not bulk-billed — for adults we claim your health fund on the spot through HICAPS so you settle only the gap, and interest-free payment options can spread what’s left.
What payment methods do you accept?
Allura Dental in Truganina accepts EFTPOS, all major credit and debit cards, health fund claiming on the spot through HICAPS, and Afterpay. Interest-free payment options are available for larger treatment — ask our team when you book and we’ll tell you what applies to your quote.
Health funds
Health funds & HICAPS
Do you accept my health fund?
Almost certainly, yes. We’re a HICAPS practice, and HICAPS is partnered with 100% of Australia’s private health insurers — so whichever fund you’re with, you can claim on the spot. Just bring your fund card and you’ll only settle any gap on the day.
Is Allura Dental a participating nib No Gap dentist in Truganina?
Yes. Allura Dental in Truganina is a participating nib No Gap dentist and First Choice provider, for eligible nib Extras members. Bring your nib card and we check your cover on the spot through HICAPS.
How much will my health fund cover?
That depends entirely on your fund and your level of dental cover — every policy is different, and annual limits reset. Bring your card and we’ll check your entitlement on the spot, then confirm any out-of-pocket cost before treatment begins. If you’d prefer to check first, we can give you a written treatment plan with item numbers to take to your fund.
I’ve just joined a health fund — can I claim on my first visit?
Often not straight away — waiting periods are set by your fund, not by us. They apply most often to major dental such as crowns, bridges and implants, which usually sits under a separate limit with a 12-month wait. Bring your card to Allura Dental in Truganina and we’ll check through HICAPS what you can claim before any treatment begins. Our payment options page explains what else affects a rebate.
What does "no gap" actually mean?
Simply this: if your health fund covers the full cost of the service, there’s nothing more to pay on the day. Whether that happens depends on your fund, your level of cover and how much of your annual limit you’ve already used — which is exactly why we check before treatment rather than after.
Do I have to pay the full amount and claim it back later?
No. With HICAPS your claim is processed here at the practice while you’re standing at reception, so your fund’s contribution comes off immediately and you only pay the difference.
When do my health fund dental limits reset?
Most health funds reset dental limits at the start of the calendar year. That timing can make a real difference to your out-of-pocket cost: if you have treatment planned and unused limit remaining, it’s worth discussing with us at Allura Dental in Truganina before you book. We’ll tell you honestly whether waiting is clinically sensible in your case, and we check your remaining entitlement on the spot through HICAPS.
Does my health fund cover teeth whitening or veneers?
Generally no — cosmetic treatment such as teeth whitening and veneers usually isn’t covered by health funds, because it isn’t classed as clinically necessary, so plan on paying the full cost. At Allura Dental in Truganina, in-chair whitening is $499, a take-home kit from $299, composite veneers from $300 per tooth and porcelain veneers from $1,200. Where a tooth genuinely needs restoring for health reasons we’ll explain what that means for your cover, and you’ll have a written quote first.
Families
Children & families
Is my child’s dental care really free?
Eligible children can have a range of dental services bulk-billed with no gap under Medicare’s Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), and we’ll happily check your child’s eligibility for you. CDBS is a Medicare entitlement — Allura Dental is an approved provider and an independent business, not affiliated with or operated by the Australian Government.
How do I know if my child is eligible for CDBS?
Eligibility is determined by Medicare, not by us — it generally depends on the child’s age and whether the family receives certain government payments. Bring your Medicare card and we’ll check the current balance and eligibility for you before any appointment. You can also check it yourself through your Medicare online account.
What does CDBS cover for my child?
Examinations, cleans, fluoride, fissure sealants, fillings and some extractions are bulk-billed for eligible children at Allura Dental in Truganina under Medicare’s Child Dental Benefits Schedule. CDBS does not cover orthodontics, cosmetic treatment or dental work carried out in hospital — anything outside the schedule we tell you about first and quote in writing. Our CDBS guide has the detail.
How much is the CDBS benefit worth per child?
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule is capped: the benefit is $1,158 per eligible child over two consecutive calendar years. The government sets that cap and indexes it each January, and Services Australia — not the dentist — holds your child’s balance. Most routine care at Allura Dental in Truganina never reaches the cap, and we tell you where your child stands against it before treatment.
What does a children’s check-up cost if we’re not eligible for CDBS?
A children’s check-up and clean at Allura Dental in Truganina is from $79 for ages 0 to 6 and from $129 for ages 7 to 15, where there is no CDBS eligibility or health fund cover. Most health funds cover children’s dentistry well, and we claim on the spot through HICAPS so you settle only the gap. Every published fee is on our price guide.
Does CDBS cover braces for my teenager?
No. CDBS covers basic and preventive dental care, so braces and clear aligners are not bulk-billed for a teenager. At Allura Dental in Truganina a full orthodontic case is from $6,500 for fixed braces and from $6,000 for clear aligners, including reviews and retainers, and quoted in writing after an assessment. Many extras policies include orthodontics under a separate limit, often with a longer waiting period. Our braces and clear aligners page sets out how each option works.
At what age should my child first see a dentist?
General guidance in Australia is around the first birthday, or within six months of the first tooth appearing. At Allura Dental in Truganina an early visit is short and gentle — usually a look at how the teeth are coming through, a count and a polish, plus practical advice for you on brushing and diet — rather than treatment, and eligible children can be bulk-billed under Medicare’s CDBS.
My child is nervous about the dentist — what do you do differently?
We keep a nervous child’s first visit at Allura Dental in Truganina short and unhurried — often little more than a ride in the chair, a count of the teeth and a polish — and we explain each step in words a child understands before we do it. Your child sets the pace, and the intraoral camera and ceiling-mounted screens let them see what we see. Mention it when you book so we can plan the visit around your child.
Are dental X-rays safe for children?
Modern sensors need far less exposure than older film, and the reason to limit imaging is not that any one image is dangerous but that the right principle is to keep exposure as low as reasonably achievable. At Allura Dental in Truganina we take an X-ray for a child only where there is a clinical reason — decay between the teeth, or a problem below the gum that an eye cannot see. Your dentist explains which image is being recommended, and why, before anything is taken.
Do you make custom sports mouthguards for children?
Yes. Allura Dental in Truganina makes custom sports mouthguards from $149, shaped from an impression or scan of your child’s own teeth so the guard sits closely and stays put during play. Off-the-shelf guards fit loosely and offer far less protection. They come in a choice of colours, one can be made to fit around braces, and we check the fit at routine visits as your child grows. Some health funds contribute, claimed on the spot through HICAPS. Our custom mouthguards page explains how one is made.
Can the whole family be seen on the same day?
Wherever the schedule allows, yes — mention it when you book and we’ll try to arrange back-to-back appointments so you make one trip to Truganina rather than several. Ask about the late-afternoon and Saturday times when you book, which suit school-age children best.
Appointments
Booking & emergencies
Can I see a dentist today in Truganina if I’m in pain?
If you’re in dental pain, we aim to accommodate a same-day emergency appointment at Allura Dental in Truganina where possible — call us on 03 8342 8888 as early in the day as you can, because we hold emergency time in the book each day. For a serious after-hours medical emergency, go to your nearest hospital. Our emergency dentist page has first-aid steps for the wait.
What counts as a dental emergency?
Severe or persistent toothache, a knocked-out or broken tooth, swelling of the face or gums, bleeding that won’t stop, or a lost filling or crown causing pain. If you’re unsure, call us and describe what’s happening — our team will tell you how urgently you need to be seen.
When should I go to hospital instead of a dentist?
Call 000 or go to your nearest emergency department if facial swelling is spreading towards your eye or neck, if you’re finding it hard to breathe or swallow, or if there’s heavy bleeding or injury after an accident. For the tooth itself — pain, a break, a lost filling or crown, or a dental abscess — a dentist is the right place, and Allura Dental in Truganina holds emergency time in the book each day. If you’re unsure which it is, call us and describe what’s happening.
How much does an emergency dental appointment cost in Truganina?
An emergency appointment at Allura Dental in Truganina starts from $120, which covers the consultation, the diagnosis and two X-rays to find out exactly what’s wrong. Anything beyond that is explained and quoted before we begin. We’re a HICAPS practice, so any health fund rebate is claimed at the desk on the day and you pay only the gap.
What are your opening hours?
Allura Dental in Truganina is open Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 6:00pm, and Saturday 9:00am – 4:00pm. We’re closed on Sundays and public holidays. Booking online is available any time, and you can reach us on 03 8342 8888 or on WhatsApp during opening hours.
Is there a dentist open on Saturday in Truganina?
Yes. Allura Dental in Truganina is open Saturday 9:00am – 4:00pm, which helps if you can’t get away during the week. We’re closed on Sundays and public holidays. Book online any time, or call us on 03 8342 8888 during opening hours.
Are you open on Sundays, public holidays or after hours?
No. Allura Dental in Truganina is closed on Sundays and public holidays. Outside our opening hours you can leave a message and we’ll call you back when we reopen, and online booking stays available any time. For urgent advice while we’re closed, NURSE-ON-CALL is available 24 hours on 1300 60 60 24. In a medical emergency at any hour, call 000 or go to your nearest emergency department.
Can I speak to someone before booking a full appointment?
Yes — we offer a complimentary tele-consult, usually valued at $45. It’s most useful when you want a second opinion on a treatment plan or quote you’ve been given elsewhere. You’ll speak with a qualified clinician who can give you guidance and clarity based on the information you provide, which is why it’s by booking only rather than a call-back. If you have scans, X-rays or a written quote, email them to info@alluradental.com.au with your name and appointment date so we can review them beforehand. It isn’t a diagnosis — an in-person examination is always needed before treatment can be recommended — and there’s no obligation to book anything afterwards.
How do I book, change or cancel an appointment?
Book online any time, or call us on 03 8342 8888, message us on WhatsApp, or email info@alluradental.com.au. If you need to change or cancel, we simply ask for as much notice as you can give so the appointment can go to someone else who needs it.
Where is Allura Dental in Truganina, and is there parking?
Allura Dental is at 22 Bradshaw Street, Truganina VIC 3029, beside Allura Village, with on-site parking and entry via the service road off Forsyth Road, which local bus routes also serve. The two nearest train stations are Tarneit and Williams Landing. We’re an easy drive from Tarneit, Williams Landing, Point Cook, Hoppers Crossing, Werribee and the surrounding Wyndham suburbs — there’s more on finding us in Truganina.
Treatments
Treatments & what they cost
What treatments do you offer at Allura Dental in Truganina?
Allura Dental in Truganina is a general and cosmetic dental practice. We provide check-ups and cleaning, children’s dentistry, tooth-coloured fillings, fissure sealants, root canal therapy, gum disease therapy, wisdom teeth and extractions, crowns and bridges, dental implants, dentures, braces and clear aligners, teeth whitening, veneers, custom mouthguards, care for jaw pain and teeth grinding, sedation and care for anxious patients, emergency dentistry, and on-site X-rays and 3D imaging. Where treatment sits outside our scope, we refer you on rather than guess. See every treatment and what each one involves.
Do you take out wisdom teeth, or do I need to see a surgeon?
Wisdom teeth are removed here at Allura Dental in Truganina, under local anaesthetic. We plan them from an on-site 3D CBCT scan so the roots and nearby nerves are visible before we start rather than guessed at, and a simple wisdom tooth extraction starts from $375. A surgical removal is priced after assessment, with a written quote before anything begins. Where a case is genuinely complex, or needs a level of sedation we don’t provide, we’ll refer you on rather than push beyond what we should do.
How much does it cost to have a tooth taken out?
A simple extraction at Allura Dental in Truganina starts from $225, and a wisdom tooth from $375. Extractions are priced by how straightforward the tooth is, so a surgical removal is quoted after an assessment and you have the figure in writing first. Where a root canal could save the tooth instead, we’ll give you an honest comparison before it comes out. Extractions are usually covered under general dental, claimed on the spot through HICAPS, so you settle only the gap.
How much does a filling cost?
At Allura Dental in Truganina a small tooth-coloured filling starts from $180, and a larger restoration or rebuild from $300. Fillings are priced by size and by the tooth involved, so you’ll have the exact figure in writing before we start. Most funds cover fillings under general dental and we claim on the spot through HICAPS, and fillings are among the services bulk-billed for eligible children under Medicare’s CDBS.
How much does a root canal cost?
Root canal treatment is priced by the tooth, because a front tooth has one canal and back teeth have several. At Allura Dental in Truganina a root canal on a front tooth starts from $1,100, and a premolar or molar is quoted after assessment. A back tooth is usually crowned afterwards to protect it, and a crown starts from $1,600 — a separate step we include in the plan, so you see the full cost in writing before anything begins.
Do you do Invisalign, or only traditional braces?
Allura Dental in Truganina provides both — clear aligners including Invisalign, and traditional fixed braces — planned from a full-mouth 3D scan taken on site. Aligners suit mild-to-moderate crowding, spacing and alignment, and come out to eat; fixed braces handle the complex movements and bite corrections aligners can struggle with. A full case starts from $6,000 for clear aligners and $6,500 for braces, quoted in writing after your consultation. We’ll tell you which one your case genuinely calls for.
Do you do dental implants, and does the price include the crown?
Dental implants are placed at Allura Dental in Truganina and planned from an on-site 3D CBCT scan. The implant starts from $4,500, and that figure covers the fixture only — the crown that sits on top is quoted separately after assessment, so you see both halves of the cost before you commit. Whether an implant suits you depends on your gum health and the bone we find at the assessment, which we’ll go through with you first.
What’s the difference between an OPG, a 3D scan and a CBCT scan?
An OPG is one wide panoramic X-ray of all your teeth, jaws and sinuses — the standard overview. A cephalometric X-ray is a side-profile image, used mainly for orthodontic assessment. A 3D scan is a three-dimensional view for planning, and a CBCT is higher-resolution cone-beam 3D imaging for when depth matters — an implant, or a wisdom tooth close to the nerve. All of these are taken on site at Allura Dental in Truganina, and only where there is a clinical reason for the image — what each one shows is explained on our X-rays & 3D imaging page.
How much does an OPG, 3D scan or CBCT cost?
At Allura Dental in Truganina an OPG (a full-mouth X-ray) is $119 for our own patients, or $149 if you come to us for imaging only. A 3D scan is $119 or $149, a 3D CBCT scan $229 or $249, and a cephalometric X-ray, used mainly for orthodontic assessment, $149 or $179. All of it is taken on site, and only where it’s clinically necessary.
Our clinic
Comfort, accessibility & care
Who is the dentist at Allura Dental in Truganina?
Dr Sumaiya Pathan is the Principal Dentist at Allura Dental in Truganina, and she currently sees every patient personally. She brings more than 10 years of Australian clinical experience — from Sydney to Broken Hill and across metropolitan Melbourne — and provides the full range of general and cosmetic dentistry, with particular interests in smile makeovers with clear aligners and veneers, children’s dentistry, and care for anxious patients. You can read more about our team.
I feel anxious about the dentist — can you help?
Absolutely. Our clinic is a calm, purpose-built space with natural light, ceiling-mounted screens during treatment and an all-age accessible knee-break chair. Our team takes a gentle, unhurried approach — tell us your concerns and we’ll go at your pace.
Do you have a dentist who speaks Hindi, Urdu or Gujarati?
Yes. Dr Sumaiya Pathan, Principal Dentist at Allura Dental in Truganina, consults in English, Hindi, Urdu and Gujarati. Across the wider team we speak English, Hindi, Urdu, Gujarati, Punjabi and Arabic, and that list is still growing. Tell us which language you’re most comfortable in when you book, and we’ll make sure you understand us and we understand you.
Can I request a female dentist?
Yes. Dr Sumaiya Pathan is the Principal Dentist at Allura Dental in Truganina and currently sees every patient personally, so every appointment here is with a female dentist. If having a woman clinician matters to you — for comfort, culture or family — that is already how the practice runs, and you can tell us anything else that would make the visit easier when you book.
Is the clinic accessible for wheelchairs, prams and older patients?
Yes. The clinic is purpose-built at ground level with step-free access, and our chairs include an all-age accessible knee-break design that makes getting in and out considerably easier for older patients, people with limited mobility and anyone who finds a standard dental chair uncomfortable.
What are your infection control standards?
We meet all Australian regulatory requirements, and we’ve gone further — our protocols were shaped by expert consultation with a strong cleanroom background, giving us a higher standard for infection control than the minimum requires. It’s one of the reasons the clinic was built from the ground up rather than converted.
Will I be pushed into treatment I don’t need?
No. Every option is explained, including waiting and monitoring where that’s clinically reasonable, and our recommendations are never shaped by revenue. You’re free to take a treatment plan away, think about it, or seek a second opinion — we’d rather earn your trust than your next appointment.
Why do you take 3D scans and photos?
So you can see exactly what we see, and so diagnosis and planning happen from your actual anatomy rather than an estimate. On-site 3D imaging at Allura Dental in Truganina means we can show you your own teeth on screen rather than asking you to take our word for it. Imaging is only taken where there’s a clinical reason for it, and your dentist will explain which one is being recommended and why before it’s taken.
Can I read reviews from your patients?
Yes — you’ll find our reviews on our Google Business listing. As a registered healthcare provider we’re not permitted to publish patient testimonials about clinical care in our own advertising, so we simply point you to the independent listing instead.
