Our Technology
See what we see.
Allura Dental was built from the ground up as a dedicated dental clinic, so the imaging and equipment were chosen around how care should actually work — not around what an existing space allowed. Most of what follows happens on site, in one visit.
3D Imaging
On-site CBCT and OPG
A cone beam CT (CBCT) scan builds a three-dimensional picture of your teeth, jaw, nerves and sinuses. An OPG is the single wide X-ray that shows every tooth at once. Both are taken here, in minutes.
Many practices refer this out, which means a second appointment somewhere else, another wait, and a diagnosis delayed. Having it on site means your dentist can look at the scan with you, on screen, in the same visit that raised the question.
- Planning implants, extractions and root canals accurately
- Seeing infection or bone loss a flat X-ray can hide
- Checking wisdom teeth against the nerve before surgery
Imaging is taken only where it is clinically necessary. Your dentist will explain why before anything is taken, and what it costs.
In The Surgery
Equipment chosen for comfort, not just capability.
Intraoral camera
A small camera that puts your own tooth on the screen beside you. You should never have to take our word for what is going on in your mouth.
All-age accessible chairs
A knee-break design that makes getting in and out considerably easier for older patients, people with limited mobility, and anyone who finds a standard chair uncomfortable.
Ceiling-mounted displays
Screens positioned where you are actually looking, so your images can be talked through without you sitting up and turning around.
Digital records
Photos, scans and notes kept together, so a change over time is visible rather than remembered.
Hygiene & Infection Control
The part you are not meant to notice.
Every instrument is cleaned, packaged, sterilised and tracked to Australian standards before it comes near you. Surgeries are prepared to the same protocol between every patient, on the busy days as well as the quiet ones.
This is the least visible thing a practice does and the least negotiable. We are happy to show you the sterilisation area if you would like to see it — ask at reception.
Common Questions
About imaging and radiation
Is a 3D scan safe? How much radiation is involved?
Dental CBCT uses a low dose compared with a medical CT, and modern sensors need far less exposure than older film. We take imaging only where it is clinically necessary — the reason to limit scans is not that any one scan is dangerous, but that the right principle is to keep exposure as low as reasonably achievable. Tell your dentist if you are pregnant or think you might be.
Do I need a 3D scan, or will an X-ray do?
Most check-ups need no 3D scan at all. A CBCT earns its place when depth matters — planning an implant, assessing a wisdom tooth against the nerve, or investigating something a flat image cannot resolve. Your dentist will explain which one is being recommended and why before it is taken.
Can I get a copy of my scan?
Yes. Your images are your health information. Ask at reception and we will provide a copy, including if you are seeking a second opinion or being referred elsewhere.
Is imaging covered by my health fund?
Most funds contribute to diagnostic imaging, though the amount varies by fund and by your level of cover. We claim on the spot through HICAPS, so you only pay any gap. If you would like to know the cost before the day, ask us to check your cover first.
Come and see it for yourself.
A comprehensive first visit includes imaging where it is needed, and your dentist will show you exactly what they are looking at.
