Children’s dentistry

Gentle, unhurried dental care for kids — and eligible children can be bulk-billed under Medicare’s CDBS with no gap to pay. At this age the goal is simple: healthy teeth, and a child who isn’t frightened of the dentist.

Families across Truganina, Mt Atkinson, Tarneit, Hoppers Crossing and the rest of Melbourne’s west choose us for their children’s dentistry.

Care built around children

Kids aren’t small adults, and their visits shouldn’t feel like it. We keep first visits short and friendly, explain things in words a child understands, and never rush.

Bulk-billed under CDBS

Eligible children can have a range of dental services bulk-billed under Medicare’s Child Dental Benefits Schedule, with no gap to pay. We check eligibility for you before the appointment.

Gentle first visits

Often the first visit is just a ride in the chair, a count of the teeth and a polish — building trust so future visits are easy, not something to dread.

Why it matters: baby teeth hold the space for adult teeth and a child’s comfort with the dentist is set early. A good experience now saves fear — and fillings — later.

Bringing your child to us

It’s worth booking your child in if any of these apply — and the earlier the first visit, the easier every visit after it tends to be:

A first visit

The general guidance is a first check around the first birthday or when the first teeth appear — mostly to make it normal and fun.

A nervous child

We’re patient with anxious little ones and go at their pace — the aim is a child who’ll happily come back.

Checking CDBS eligibility

If your child is eligible, their care can be bulk-billed — tell us and we’ll confirm it for you before you come in.

If a child does need treatment such as a filling or a sealant, we explain it to them and to you, and keep it as gentle as possible.

What to expect

A child’s visit is relaxed by design — we’d rather build trust than tick a box.

  1. 1Step one

    A friendly welcome

We meet your child at their level, show them around the chair, and let them get comfortable before anything happens.

  2. 2Step two

    A gentle look

We count and check the teeth, watch how the adult teeth are coming through, and spot anything worth keeping an eye on.

  3. 3Step three

    Clean, fluoride & any care

A polish and fluoride to strengthen the teeth, and any needed treatment explained simply and done gently.

  4. 4Step four

    Make it a habit

We agree when they’re next due, and send them off feeling like the dentist is an easy place to be.

What it costs

Eligible children are bulk-billed under Medicare’s CDBS with no gap to pay, and we check eligibility for you. For care outside CDBS, our fees are on the price list and most funds cover children’s dentistry well.

Health fund rebates

All major Australian funds accepted and claimed on the spot through HICAPS — you settle only the gap.

Interest-free options

Larger treatment can be spread over time rather than paid upfront — just ask.

No surprise additions

Your quote covers the plan agreed. If something changes clinically, we discuss it before it affects the cost.

Questions

Children’s Dentistry FAQs

At what age should my child first see a dentist?

The common guidance is a first visit around your child’s first birthday, or when their first teeth come through — largely so it becomes normal and unthreatening. Early visits are usually just a friendly look, and they make every later visit easier.

Is my child’s dental care really free?

Eligible children can have a range of services bulk-billed under Medicare’s Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), with no gap to pay, and we check eligibility for you. CDBS is a Medicare entitlement, not a promotion — Allura Dental is an approved provider and an independent business, not affiliated with or operated by the Australian Government.

How do I check if my child is eligible for CDBS?

Tell us when you book and we’ll confirm it for you before the appointment. Eligibility is tied to certain family payments and a two-year benefit cap; we’ll let you know exactly where your child stands so there are no surprises.

My child is scared of the dentist — can you help?

Yes — nervous children are much of what we do. We go at their pace, explain everything in simple words, and keep first visits short and positive. The goal is a child who’ll happily come back, which matters more than getting everything done in one go.

Do baby teeth really matter if they fall out anyway?

They do. Baby teeth hold the space for adult teeth, help with speech and eating, and decay in them can be painful and affect the adult teeth forming underneath. Looking after them — and building good habits early — pays off for years.
