Comfort & protection

Custom mouthguards

A knocked-out tooth on the sports field is a dental emergency you can prevent. A custom-fitted mouthguard protects far better than a boil-and-bite from the chemist — and, unlike them, it actually stays in.

Made to your teeth, not a mould in hot water

A custom mouthguard is made from a precise scan of your teeth, so it fits closely, cushions an impact evenly, and doesn’t fall out or make it hard to breathe and talk.

Made to fit you

Taken from an impression or 3D scan of your own teeth, so it sits snugly, stays put during play, and is comfortable enough to actually wear.

Why custom beats boil-and-bite

Off-the-shelf guards are bulky, fit loosely and offer far less protection — a custom guard absorbs and spreads the force of a knock far more effectively.

Worth it: a custom guard costs more than a chemist one, but a single knocked-out or broken tooth costs far more — in money and in emergency appointments.

Who needs one

Any sport with a risk of a knock to the face is a reason for a mouthguard. It’s especially worth it for:

Contact & ball sports

Football, hockey, basketball, martial arts, cricket — anywhere an elbow, ball or fall can reach your teeth.

Children in sport

Kids’ teeth are still developing and worth protecting; a custom guard fits far better than a bulky chemist one.

Playing with braces

A mouthguard over braces protects both your teeth and the appliance — we’ll make one that fits around them.

Children grow, so a child’s guard needs replacing as their teeth change — we’ll check the fit at their routine visits.

What to expect

A custom mouthguard takes one quick scan and a return visit to collect.

  1. 1Step one

    Scan or impression

We take a quick 3D scan or impression of your teeth — no discomfort, just a few minutes.

  2. 2Step two

    Made to fit

Your guard is custom-made to that scan, in your choice of colour, for a close and comfortable fit.

  3. 3Step three

    Fit & check

We check it fits well, protects properly and lets you breathe and talk — adjusting if needed.

  4. 4Step four

    Replace as needed

We check it at routine visits and remake it as children grow or if it wears down.

What it costs

A custom mouthguard is a single, quoted fee — and cheap insurance against a knocked-out tooth. Some health funds contribute, and we claim on the spot.

Health fund rebates

All major Australian funds accepted and claimed on the spot through HICAPS — you settle only the gap.

Interest-free options

Larger treatment can be spread over time rather than paid upfront — just ask.

No surprise additions

Your quote covers the plan agreed. If something changes clinically, we discuss it before it affects the cost.

Questions

Custom Mouthguards FAQs

Which sports need a mouthguard?

Any sport with a risk of a knock to the mouth — football, rugby, hockey, basketball, netball, martial arts, boxing, cricket and more. If there’s a chance of contact, a ball, or a fall, a mouthguard is worth wearing.

Isn’t a chemist mouthguard good enough?

Not really. Boil-and-bite guards fit loosely, are bulky, and offer far less protection — and because they’re uncomfortable they often end up not worn. A custom guard fits your teeth precisely, protects far better, and is comfortable enough to actually keep in.

My child is still growing — is a custom guard worth it?

Yes — a custom guard fits and protects far better than a bulky chemist one, which matters most for developing teeth. Because kids grow, it will need remaking periodically; we check the fit at routine visits and remake it when needed.

Can I wear a mouthguard with braces?

Yes — and you should. A mouthguard made to fit over braces protects both your teeth and the appliance from a knock. We’ll make one designed around your braces.

How long does a custom mouthguard last?

For an adult, often a few seasons with care; for a growing child, it needs replacing as the teeth change. We’ll check it at routine visits and let you know when it’s time for a new one.
